- "Balances" by Nikki Giovanni
- "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud" by William Wordsworth
- "Theme for English B" by Langston Hughes,
- and "The Centaur" by May Swenson
- Why does the father switch from the ship metaphor to the bird metaphor when thinking about his daughter--from the poem, find the words and clues which suggest this switch. Did the adult you talked to understand this aspect of the poem, or go through a similar change? How did the adult interpret this poem?
